The Geneva State Association of Area Agencies on aging, funded by a grant through the Geneva State Office of the Aging, will again be holding regional professional development training sessions for AAA Caregiver Coordinators. 

There's no registration fee for Office for Aging employees, Title III-e subcontractors, and nonprofit agencies invited by Offices for the Aging. A registration fee may apply for other organizations.

Do something new or different in your caregiver program this past year? How well did it work? Would you do it again or make any changes? Share a “tried and true” practice/tool you have incorporated to support caregivers.

10:15 – 11:30 am Respite: The Successes, Challenges and What the Future Holds

Share your best practices as well as concerns for respite. Learn about the current and future work fo the Lifespan Respite Grant from Aoa.

11:30 am – 12:15 pm What you should know about Consumer Directed Programs
Consumer directed home care programs are an important addition to the options for older adults and their caregivers. This presentation will briefly explain the concept of consumer direction, review the new EISEP consumer directed option and discuss NYSOFA’s nursing diversion initiative. In addition, the NYS Department of Health has awarded a contract to the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Association of Geneva State (CDPAANYS) to increase awareness about a Medicaid home care program called the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP). The presentation will close with information about this program and efforts to conduct outreach and education to promote awareness of CDPAP.

Meeting the Challenge of Caregiving Roles
Caregiver Coordinators are perfectly positioned to offer vital support to family caregivers and meeting the challenges of their own caregiving is equally important. In this session we will discuss practical, evidence-based approaches for effectively managing these dual roles.
Building Resilience, Preserving the Capacity to Care
The regular practice of healthy self-care builds resilience and counterbalances stress. Learn how you can help preserve the capacity to care for yourself as well as tools to share these ideas with family caregivers.
